i'm in the sixth month of a north american adventure.  currently in morgantown, wv.  i want to stay on asphalt and head east to DC.

1.  can i ride interstate 68?

2.  any route advice?  i know of great allegheny passage trail but it's not asphalt....but has anyone that has actually ridden it have advice about it?  fyi, i'm pulling a trailer.

thanks!

It is typically illegal to ride on interstates east of the Mississippi River.  The GAP is primarily crushed limestone and it typically easy enough to ride on 32+mm tires.

Another option is to ride over to Purcellville, VA and get onto the W&OD rail trail which is paved and will take you into Washington.

Hope you enjoy your ride!

I was researching this as part of my cross-country route this summer, but went up north instead because of time constraints. I've been on the GAP, and it is OK for trailers, but the C&0 not ideal. Much of US40/National Pike corridor seems suitable for cycling, combining it with available paths like the Western Maryland Rail Trail (fully paved).
