Has anybody cycled through the entire continental 48 states???
« on: November 25, 2015, 05:47:14 pm »
I am planning on doing this in March, 2016. My main issue is figuring out my route so I don't hit the dessert in the summer, and the winter in the north. I am leaving from Cali and heading east through Nevada etc....I am zig-zagging up and down through the south and mid-west, before going up the North-East. Then I will return via the North part of the country. If you did this, what did your route look like???

Do you mean entirely across each state or just enter (but not necessarily cross it) each state.  If the latter, probably several hundred have done it over the years.  If you mean the former, less than a 100 (guessing) have but it has been done.

Go a google search, this is just one example of someone who did it http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/48-states-in-48-days-record-attempt-21834/.

In John W. Triggs' book "America at 10 Miles Per Hour: A 17,300 Mile Bicycle Journey" (1996) he hits all 48 states in about 13 1/2 months. Not a bad read.

I have bicycled 44 states in my various tours. Someday I might hit the 4 remaining widely scattered states - Maine, West Virginia, North Dakota and Nevada.

That sounds awesome. I'm hitting 22 states on my tour leaving April 30, 2016. All in the north. If you complete your journey please post a link or something so we can see about your trip!

There is a Texas couple in this month's issue of Adventure Cycling who has cycled in all 50 states over a number of years. I've just started but I've added cycling in all 50 states to my bucket list. I've only got 15 done and am 68 so I need to get on my bike...
