Long tour on a Trek 7.2 fx?
« on: November 27, 2015, 12:01:31 am »
Hi everybody,

I'm pretty much a total noob with regards to touring and pretty much bikes in general. I took a 90 mile trip once, but that's it. I have a 2015 Trek 7.2fx and want to a tour around 4 of the great lakes, about 3000 miles. I would start around Chicago, going East across Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York under Lakes Eerie and Ontario then swing over them and head west into Michigan through Canada. Then go north through Michigan along Lake Huron then into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, then back up into Canada to go around Lake Superior into Minnesota following the lake shore. Then east back into the UP then south through Wisconsin and back to Chicago. Can it be modded to suit such a tour without so much expense that it would just be better to buy a new bike and sell the old? Not sure how much difference it makes, but I'm only about 135 pounds.

Mikem - For me, with a few adaptations, I'd be completely in favor of using your Trek 7.2fx.
Regarding what I mean by adaptations .... I'd study the following text and see which mods would make the most sense for the least investment: http://www.adventurecycling.org/cyclosource-store/everything-else/books-dvds/sp/essential-touring-cyclist/
- Best wishes for a great tour.
