"Ride With GPS" app
« on: February 23, 2016, 10:00:15 pm »
I found this app information through a link someone listed on this forum.  The web page for the app says you can map your ride prior to leaving and you will be able to see your route on a detailed map and receive voiced turn-by-turn navigation without any cell signal.   Does anyone have experience with this?   I plan to travel only with a Smartphone.  I have mapped my ride using Google Maps.  Although I assume I can download my maps to my Android phone, it would provide no voice prompts.   Sooooooo - this "Ride With GPS" app sounds perfect for someone like me who has mapped his ride beforehand.   Can anyone comment on this?

Hi Scott,

I'm one of the employees of Ride with GPS and can say that the app does exactly what you have heard.

For routes that have been planned on the website, you'll get turn-by-turn voice navigation for that route, be able to download it for offline use in the areas that don't have cellular network access.

You'll find demo videos and more info on these help links:
http://ridewithgps.com/help/offline-maps-android
http://ridewithgps.com/help/voice-navigation

You will need to have a Basic or Premium subscription to use the navigation and offline maps features.

If you or anyone else ever have any questions about using Ride with GPS with the mobile app or Garmin units, please feel free to contact us any time at info@ridewithgps.com

Cheers!
-Tomas

I just started playing around with this myself for the first time yesterday.  I planned my route on the Ride With GPS web site and then used the route on the smartphone app.  On the App I downloaded the route to my phone.  Then I went riding and was able to use the turn by turn instructions.  It worked great.

It won't work with the FREE version of membership. I think you have to upgrade to the first paid form of membership.  It will be worth it though.  It is a very nice feature.  I was impressed.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can still view routes and the associated cue sheets with a free account. You wont' get the prompts, but you'll be able to see the route line and cues so long as you have a cellular network connection.
