Anyone here use Rok Straps?
« on: March 22, 2016, 12:49:33 am »
I was searching on another forum about the best bungies to use, and someone mentioned using RokStraps:

http://rokstraps.com/

I got some of them and used them on my last tour - quite useful, indeed! Better than regular bungies, more dependable, easier to use, etc.

Anyone else discovered the Joy of RokStraps?

(I don't work for them, just a convert, that's all ;-) )

I was going to use a couple of bunjis.  I think that crisscrossed over my sleeping bag they will hold securely but seeing your post I looked at the link. I think I like the idea that the rock straps are staying attached to the bike when you setup camp ready to re-strap the next morning.  I may give it a try for $13.  By the way which size did you use?

I got two of the 60 inch "Motorcycle/ATV" straps, and two of the 42 inch "Pack" straps, and arranged them in a configuration on the rack that would make sure I could cinch down anything that might be on there.  And I ended up loving them for the reason you specify - they are sitting there, ready to re-strap in the morning, no fussing with hooks and such.

I use and prefer inexpensive straps that don't stretch.  Typically anything I strap on the rack has enough give that I don't want or need stretch in the straps.  It is also light enough that a pretty light duty strap suffices.  I think the ones I use are poly (nylon gets loose when wet).

The cheap straps from Coghlan's work fine.  They don't last forever, but are cheap enough (about $3 for two) that it doesn't matter too much.  They are also much lighter than Rok straps.

Am I correct is assuming that both ends stay attached when not in use? If not, be careful that one end doesn't get caught in your spoke when you move the bike. I had that happen but caught it before I a disaster happened.

They do both stay attached.  I usually then click the two ends together, cinch them tight, and wrap the dangling strap ends around each other so as not to get in the way.
