Trans Am from Steamboat Springs CO to Missoula MT
« on: April 07, 2016, 03:03:52 pm »
My friend and I are riding from Pueblo CO to Bellingham WA. this July. Actually he is starting in Texas. We are taking the TransAmerica Trail. I live in CO so I am pretty familiar with the route, place to stay and eat etc. We would like some insight on places to stay, either hotels, hostel etc. and to camp starting in WY. Also, food options.

Also any other info you feel would be useful. Like weather for that time of year.

We are both in our late 60s and this is our first touring adventure.

Have you bought the relevant TransAm maps?  They are chock full of just what you're asking for -- restaurants in small towns, campgrounds, and services to include hostels, where to find groceries, etc.  Buy them; they'll end up saving you so much money and effort you'll decide they're cheap.

Just one more note, the TA moved away from Steamboat and now goes east towards Granby.

Another great source is the Crazyguyonabike journals.  There will be many covering this area.  Riding to Bellingham you will want to check out both the TransAm and Northern Tier routes from Adventure Cycling Association. I am also in my 60's and have ridden parts of both of these routes. They are not easy but the views are fabulous.
