Idaho Hot Springs Parking
« on: July 12, 2015, 01:44:47 pm »
Hey all - my wife and I are doing a 7 day tour of the Idaho Hot Springs route in late August.  Thinking of driving to Ketchum and getting on the route there.  Anyone have any bright ideas where to park one's car for a week in the Ketchum/Sun Valley area?

Having done the route last year, which led to a seven day tour of Ketchum, I doubt you will find much trouble if you were just to ask when you got there.  I wouldn't be surprised if you were invited to park in someone's driveway, but perhaps call the COC and ask for specific recommendations.  It's a friendly town.  Have fun!

When I was there Ketchum and Sun Valley were a complete mod scene.  It was hard to find a place to even park to ask questions.  I they were parking folks in a big  lot (at the ski resort I think) and busing them into town.  It was bad enough that I vowed to avoid driving to Ketchum again.

I drove to Featherville and the ranger there said you can park at any of the many pull outs on the USFS road.  There were also parking lots at the few businesses in town, but you'd have to have permission to park there long term.

If I was going again, I'd park in Featherville.  It is pretty off the beaten path so don't expect to find much more than a diner there.  You might check that there isn't anything special going on, they have a music festival near there July 31 through Aug. 2, 2015 and it might be a bad choice for parking at that time.

My husband and I just finished the HS loop. While we were in Idaho City the owner of the Idaho City hotel said she would gladly let people leave a vehicle behind her hotel while they were riding. Not sure if this works for you. Hope it helps.

This question has come up several times in different Topics.

I live near Crouch and would recommend it as a starting point. There are a handful of businesses that might let you park your car. I've heard that riders have parked at the Wander Inn motel or at one of the RV parks (there are 3). You could also ask at the RV storage lot. The town has a few motels, a few restaurants, a grocery store, a saloon and a laundromat so it has enough services for a good starting and ending point. There is also a USFS Ranger Station near town that might suggest some places or check with the Chamber of Commerce.
