TransAmerica #8, Maps 91-93, US 50 Road Construction, Kansas - 2016

Some TransAmerica riders in the past have chosen to go off the mapped route and travel on US 50 between Hutchinson and Newton, KS. Construction of four passing lanes on this section of US 50 is currently underway, and this shortcut is NOT ADVISED for traveling cyclists. Please travel on the official Adventure Cycling mapped route along Dutch Ave., or reference http://511.ksdot.org/Default.aspx?BrowserDetect=Yes for appropriate detours and road construction updates.

Travis, Please include what STATE in which the detours are located for all notices.  Most of us are not so intimately familiar with the ACA maps that a map number brings an instant location to mind.

Local reports are that the "Only active construction now is on East side of Burrton, KS; with due care, a cyclist can navigate that zone without being or encountering a hazard.  New lanes finished but still closed in West of Burrton and in East Reno County." Continue to exercise caution in construction zones.

We have been advised that the Construction on US 50 in this area is now complete. Please remember that this is not the official ACA route, and there is still a dangerous overpass on this section. See the addenda and alternate route map to avoid this overpass.
