Handlebar Rearview Mirror

I've looked at some mirrors that mount on the butterfly handlebars of my REI Novara Safari but they are the convex type that make everything smaller and more distant.  I don't want to have to put on reader glasses to see.  Any ideas?

I see a lot of people using handlebar mirrors, and I'm sure they like them, but I do not. I've tried several. Some of them vibrate too much. Some of them just show me a view of my leg. And they tend to break or get knocked out of adjustment when the bike is leaned against something, falls over, or I need to lay it on the ground.

I use a helmet-mounted mirror. Sure, it's small and it takes time to get used to, but it's always there and I can point it anywhere I want just by turning my head.

Hey John:  Thanks for the helmet mirror rave.  I tried one and didn't like it.  It felt clumsy and my left eye is my bad eye.  One I liked was a wrist mirror but I lost it on tour.  Now I can't find another.

I have been using Cateye bar end mirrors on my drops for at least the last 25 years. The mirrors are not convex and I have never broken one but I have replaced one just because. Vibrations? Yes, but not so that I cannot ascertain what is behind me and it depends on whether I am in the drops or on the hoods and the road surface on which I am traveling.

Can't use end bars on mine.  They are butterfly.

I have it on 3 of 4 of my bikes and feel naked riding the one without it.

I found what I was looking for in a wrist mirror and went ahead and bought the last one the seller had.  It worked very well for me on a 7,000 mile ride until I lost it.  It's called a CyFy Wristview Mirror.  You just slap it on your wrist above your watch and it wraps around snugly with no velcro or snaps.

Didn't know Ortlieb had mirrors.  It looks like that will work very well.

I love my Ortlieb mirror, no vibration great field of vision and is out of the way when I am not looking at it. Helmet and eyeglass mirrors make me go cross-eyed so I am not a fan - but that is a personal taste

Same here, mine being a bar end type.  Sorry you can't use one of these.  I can't ride w/o a mirror, and bar end is the only type that has ever really worked for me.

I know this is a big controversy here, but I don't see how anyone could ride without a mirror.  I just don't trust the thousands of motorists that pass one in just one day.  They could be texting, drunk, eating, etc.  Also, the mirror allows one to take the lane when necessary, and it is often necessary.

One of the best bicycle mirrors available is the Busch & Muller Cycle Star. It provides a very clear image with no distortion.

It is offered in three arm lengths with a universal mounting and also a dedicated bar end mount.  Two head sizes are available - 60mm and 80mm.

For your butterfly bars I'd opt for the longest arm with the large mirror head and clamp it on to the top loop of the bar. as this Aussie rider has done.
