What do you do on Rainy Day's on your Bike Touring Trips
on the Pacific Coast Route, Route 66, Southern Tier Route,
anywhere in the World on Rainy days on your bike touring trip???
Do you Camp a extra day for a dry day?
Do you ride in the Rain? (yes or no)
What do wear as Rain gear?

Me I would camp a extra dry and I would not ride in heavy rain and
I use Showers Pass Elite 2.1 Jacket and Showers Pass pants if needed on a rainy day....

And what would you do (if you actually toured) if it began to pour or snow or hail in the middle of the day's ride?

Many tourists consider the conditions.  In severe weather, seek shelter.  In steady but  not really heavy rain, ride.  You might also consult the weather radar and decide to wait out a short storm.

I ride in the rain--soft rain and hard rain. Riding in the rain is much better than sitting in a tent in the rain. If it's cold, I'll wear rain gear.

I go on Stealth Bike Camping Trips in Southern California! and Right now I am in Myrtle Beach, SC with no BIKE!

Totally agree.  I will hang out in the tent for a few hours to see if the rain lets up, but will not sit in a tent all day.  Riding in the rain beats that any day.

On my lengthier tours I rode in the rain.  I think, but not sure, it was raining when I started the ride.  If it starts raining during a ride, obviously keep riding.  But if it was raining at the start, I suppose you could postpone for awhile.  Never took rain gear on any of my tours because they were all in the summer or a somewhat warm area.  Portugal in November can get cool in the rain, but its not really winter cold.  I guess I have been lucky to always have pretty good weather on my bike tours.

It depends.

You need to make the right call on the day.

Riding in the rain may be brave, but it's not necessarily smart.

If the rain is hard enough to reduce visibility, then you are putting yourself at risk of being hit.

It doesn't even have to be actually raining - if the road is wet enough, the spray from other vehicles can be enough to create dangerous riding conditions.

Rain may also cause flooding and landslips. I've been forced to sit out two days of heavy rain because of this kind of conditions.

So, like I say - it depends.

I was touring through Kentucky one day in the rain but when it turned to hard rain I stopped on the porch of a closed country store.  I napped in a rocker under a tin roof till the rain lightened.  It was one of my best touring moments.
But back to the topic at hand.  I ride in the rain, but stay cognizant of the fact that I'm the only person out there that can see well.
I like to keep my feet dry.  Either J&G shoe covers or Vaude gaiters.  I have some Shower's pass touring shoe covers but they seem too heavy and bulky to haul around.
I waited out an all-day soaker once.  I've never ridden where they happen often. I care less about whether I ride in the rain than I do the misery of making/breaking camp in the rain.

We rode in heavy rain in SE Sicily last week. As an arid area, there is little drainage and we cycled through deep water. It was a blast!

Would one of the aero helmets with the windscreen attached make for better riding in the rain? Could you apply Rainex and have the rain just slide off?
