Best pre-ride supplement?
« on: November 28, 2016, 05:55:09 am »
Looking for a pre ride supplement to take to help increase or maintain my endurance and reduce lactic acid build up. I don't ride well on a full stomach so eating carb bars and what not isn't my best option.

Perpetuem by Hammer works well for me as "liquid food." If, during a tour, I know I have a long day with few/no services en route, I will pack a single pack and mix it at the start of that day.

Why not just eat small meals or snacks of real food often throughout the day?

Most importantly, condition well before the tour.  Eat sufficient carbohydrate in the evening, to rebuild glycogen stores in your muscles.  Hydrate well.  Eat small amounts as you ride.

There is no substitute for proper preparation, hydration and appropriate intake amounts.  Unless you have a particular, unusual dietary need, of course.

Eating before a workout isn't the best idea. Several studies are proving that and it's good you're not doing it either. In the beginning, I used to drink coffee before starting my ride. They say it's the best natural performance booster you can have. And it was, for a while. Gradually, my body was getting used to it, and I had to upgrade it. Lately, I started buying different supplements from rats army, as a friend was always praising them. I admit they did increase my endurance, and I'm planning to keep trying their stuff. They still have some formulas that need to be tested, but the research looks very promising.

Try raisin water. Heat water. Pour it over a bunch of raisins in a glass or jar. Cover the top. Let it set over night or 8 hours. I have not done it yet. I just now read about it.

You body operates at the beginning of your ride on stored glycogen https://www.verywellfit.com/what-is-glycogen-2242008.

What you do post ride the day before if often more important than trying a quick fix just before you ride.
