Tour de SRAM USA 2017
« on: December 16, 2016, 12:01:34 pm »
Hi everyone-
My name is Dave Schweikert, and I plan to attempt to ride across the United States, starting in May 2017 from San Luis Obispo, California and finishing in Wilmington, NC.  This ride, named Tour de SRAM USA 2017 (TDSU17 for short) will use the physical challenge of riding across the US in under a month as a tool to raise awareness and funds for World Bicycle Relief (WBR).  I proudly work for SRAM, one of the founders of WBR.  The ride’s name is for the planned route that will visit most of SRAM’s major US offices.
TDSU17 will require riding about 125 miles every day, climbing over 100,000 feet in elevation.  Every turn of the pedals- over 1 million- is for one goal.  That goal is to raise enough money- $147,000- to provide at least 1,000 of WBR’s Buffalo Bikes to those who dream of having 2 wheels to change their own lives, and the lives of their family and communities, in Africa.  Contributions may be made online and there are also many sponsorship opportunities in the link below:

I have also made a similar post over in the Routes forum asking for input on the tentative route that I am planning.

World Bicycle Relief (WBR) was founded in the aftermath of the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2005. WBR mobilizes people through The Power of Bicycles, with a commitment to helping people conquer the challenge of distance, achieve independence and thrive.  To date, WBR has delivered over 300,000 bicycles to teachers, students, farmers, and health care workers, most of them in Africa.

World Vision is a humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.  World Vision serves as one of WBR’s implementing partners, and connects WBR’s specially designed Buffalo Bike with users on the ground to enable real change in villages in African countries such as Mozambique and Malawi.

Please consider coming alongside as I embark on this attempt to cross the US by bike!  I’d love to have as many people join me as possible, either in person along the way (for a suggested donation to WBR of $1/mile), or with your virtual (and financial) support.  More information, approximate route, and contact information:
