I'm planning my 2017 Anniversary Trip, traversing NC via the Outer Banks route (Virginia Beach, VA->Myrtle Beach, SC.

I've heard that you can cycle across False Cape State Park, using a combination of trails and beach, to Corolla, NC. I've heard great things about the Corolla section, but only 1-2 anecdotes about the False Cape section. The max tire size on my road bike is 25mm, so I'm sure I'll be taking a few falls in the process (we're staying in hotels, so very lightly loaded).

Any thoughts? I don't mind flat gravel with 25mm, but have never tried hard-packed beach. Altogether it seems like this section will be tough, but is it worth it?
