Looking for a multi-day wine/beer/bike trip in Pacific NW

Hello,
My wife and I are just getting into bike touring and we have a trip planned in a couple weeks (SoCal) but we already wanted to put something on the calendar for later this year. We are looking to do a multi day (3-6 days) trip (preferably a loop) somewhere in the Pacific NW. We are huge fans of breweries and would also love a few stops at some wineries. If you guys have any suggestions for a route or even a starting point, please send them my way.

Sounds like something in the Willamette Valley or near Bend would be great for you guys.   The Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway starts near Portland and goes to Eugene. It hits towns like Albany, Corvallis and Salem along the way.   Going from Eugene to Bend or vice versa is also popular.  Neither have good loops though unless you go longer or deal with high traffic.

The Willamette Valley or coast would be great destinations. If you use Portland and Eugene as your beginning and ending points, there is great train service between the two on the Amtrak Cascades line. Just be sure to click on Add a Bike when you book your tickets.

South West Washington has some organized rides around the wineries, includes samples i believe. Not being a wine drinker I've never looked into to them but they are popular from what i've heard.

I live near Seattle and have been riding here for over 20 years. Buy this book, "Cycling Sojourner: A Guide to the Best Multi-Day Bicycle Tours in Washington." You will not regret it. Check out the ride titled, Walla Walla Ramble." It's a circular tour through wine country. Though it's only a three day tour, you could tie it in with the "Pedaling The Palouse" tour. This is in a part of the state (The Palouse) that is absolutely stunning! Rolling hills of wheat fields. Absolutely gorgeous! Can I make a suggestion? If you want something truly unique and also a pretty easy several day tour, check out the San Juan Islands. (Also in the book.) Your only issue will be getting campsites. You'll want to start reserving them ASAP! Good luck!

If you are cool with large, organized tours, Cycle Oregon's 30th anniversary is this year. The route they are doing is close to what they did for their 20th, which I was there for. Don't know about breweries/wineries, but the route is spectacular and includes an option to ride up to and around Crater Lake. It also includes the incredibly pretty Aufderhide Highway and McKenzie Pass. Appears one night will be spent just outside Cottage Grove. If you are a movie fan, Cottage Grove is the town where the homecoming parade scene of "Animal House" was filmed. The ride has a travelling beer and wine garden.

Like Jennifer says, a loop incorporating the northern Oregon Coast and up the Willamette Valley will take care of scenery, wine, and beer. Start in Portland metro (either city itself, or maybe on the west edge of the metro in Forest Grove so you avoid the riding through westside suburbia), head to the coast around Tillamook, south to at least Newport (Rogue Brewing), then inland there (or further south) and north through the Willamette Valley. Going counterclockwise will mean catching the prevailing wind out of the NW on the coast.

And definitely pick up Cycling Sojourner for good bike tours in the NW! There's one for Oregon and one for Washington.

Thanks, Jay!  I've actually ridden, and supported other riders on, the WVSB.  You've got it right about the wineries, that is why I am taking my time this trip.  When I support others I don't drink, and my personal ride was back when I was training for endurance events, so I rode Champoeg to Armitage and back to Brownsville as a day ride.  Camped in Brownsville and rode home the next day.  Fun at the time, but I want to see more of the route this time around.
