Salinas to SLO
« on: March 15, 2017, 12:44:38 pm »
I am cycling the Pacific Coast from San Francisco to San Diego in April and May.
If HWY 1 remains closed on Big Sur I will have to detour through the Salinas valley.
Can anyone advise me about the best/different routes through the Salinas Valley?
I have seen various route options but very little description of the routes and possible accommodation.
I will be aiming to cover about 50 miles a day, depending on terrain.

The Salinas valley will be pretty hot from, well, now until late fall.

as mentioned in the addendna, conditions in California are always found at the Cal Trans Site...

The road will be shut for some time it seems.  bummer.

The detour looks...well, I'm not sure.  If I was doing the route again, I might ride south until the closure, turn around back to Monterey, rent a car and drive to San Luis Obispo, and get back on route.  I've driven some of those roads, it's pretty country.  But more hilly and hot.  It'd certainly be more of an adventure.

best wishes
