First section of Trans Am in June

Planning on doing unsupported Trans Am East to West, but don’t have the ~90 days to do it all! So I am hoping to complete it in stages over a ~6 year period; each year doing about 700 miles, or two (2) of the Adventure Cycling Organization's trip maps!! So for 2017, using Maps 12 & 13, I am looking at starting in Yorktown, VA and finishing in Berea, KY for about 743 miles. I did a ~4,200 mile bike trip in 1984 to get from VA to the '84 Olympics and more recently in 2016 cycled from Chicago to Seattle (mostly on Northern Tier) with my wife as SAG driver. I am a 62-year old, male, retired aquatic biologist. Thinking about leaving ~8 June and cycling between 60 to 70 miles/day. Camping & WarmShowers preferable, but flexible on most fronts. Happy to have some company (any stripe of the human variety is fine with me) for my stage and/or to start off your cross-country TransAm adventure! Happy trails!

UPDATE: Due to lack of training [bad weather and (good!!!!) company!], looks like my departure date will now be 19 June '17. If that opens up some options for anyone to join me, please let me know!

Let me know if you need anything, but by the time you get to me (I live in Richmond, VA less than 100 miles form your ending point in Yorktown!!), it will all be over!

So... I am doing Richmond to Chicahomony Campground (on RT 5 & Chicahomony River, right on the TA!!!, ~55 miles OW for me) tomorrow as a dry run for my doing the TA. I will be going W to E and you will be going E to W. We should cross!!!!

I am riding a 1984 Gold colored Trek 520 with Black 1984 Cannondale rear bags. Will have a green bag on top with sleeping bag & a brown tent bag & brown bed roll. I wear a black/red Giro helmet & have a ponytail of grey hair. Haven't decided on my kit yet...

Hope to hit the road about 9. Should be at Charles City Courthouse maybe about 1 PM.

Look for me on the Capital Trail!

The 19th isnt to far away. When is the actual start of the TA17? One question. I fly into DC from London and then Im getting the train from DC down to Richmond. Is it easy to get to Yorktown from there?
