Need help putting GD Narratives on iPhone
« on: April 26, 2017, 01:18:11 pm »
I purchased ACA's Great Divide Narratives TXT and downloaded them onto my iMac (Sierra 10.12.4) but now need to get them onto my iPhone (7+) for my tour this summer. I have all the maps and hope to have route downloaded to my Garmin (1000) but would like to put narratives onto phone in Notes(?) or ? so I can easily have access to them and not have to unfold maps all the time. I'm not real good at this kind stuff so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-Dennis

I did something similar and it was quite simple. Open the Notes app on your iMac  and start a new note and give it whatever title you want, then go find the data that you have downloaded to your iMac and copy it. Next go back to the Notes app and paste it in.

I said it was simple  I guess the one caveat is that your iPhone and iMac need to be synced on the same user account and you need to have iCloud turned on. If they are, then when you open the Notes app on your iphone the data will be there automatically.  It only takes seconds to sync via iCloud.

If they are not on the same accounts and/or if iCloud is not in use then that process will not work.

If you need more specific iPhone and iMac help pm me.

Thanks Nyimbo, that worked great and I put iPhone in Airplane mode and all 12 of US GDMBR narratives  were still in Notes. I was worried about  that as ~85% of route has no cell service thus no iCloud. I bought my new iPhone 7 with 250 GB of storage so I can keep lots on phone.

I will sleep better knowing I have easy access to narratives. For the past three Summers I have toured ACA's Idaho Hot Springs Bike Route (IHSBR) and have had my best luck using narratives, GPS and maps together. I hate being lost!

Thanks again and I may need more help with putting GPX route data on iPhone as a backup to Garmin 1000 GPS route (which I may also need help as ACA didn't come out with one like I've used for IHSBR).
