Camping IN San Francisco

I'm gonna be in SF on Friday and Saturday. Anybody know of any good campgrounds to stay? (Not ones with sketchy people)

I know there are some outside of the city, but I would prefer to be close to the city

I would be very surprised it there was a safe place to pitch a tent in San Francisco. Certainly not Golden Gate Park. When I was there I stayed at the Petaluma KOA and took the handy (Bus stop right there), comfortable bus in and out of the city. It's a fine ride over the Golden Gate Bridge.

Down the coast I met a couple of bicycle touring girls who stayed very briefly at the San Francisco youth hostel. They found it very creepy and bailed.

The only public campground in the city is Candlestick RV Park.  It's ~$50/night.  It's in a fairly industrial location at the edge of town.  I don't know anyone who's stayed there.

There are also a ton of Warm Showers hosts, a few hostels, and many hotels.

There is in fact a safe place to pitch a tent in San Francisco: the Rob Hill campground, a public campground in the Presidio. Unfortunately, it's only for groups, not for individuals. I stayed there once. Nice place. But as I said, it's only for groups.
