Utah Cliffs Loop (ACA) in early May?
« on: April 27, 2017, 06:03:50 pm »
Anyone know if the higher elevation part will be accessible say between May 1-15, or would it still be snowed in?  If so, is there a viable bypass?

According to this page from Utah DOT, SR 148 which goes through Cedar Breaks National Monument, it won't be open until late May/early June.

While the route doesn't go through the monument, it gives you some idea of the area conditions. The route DOES use a number of roads that are likely not plowed.

These conditions will vary from year to year. I suggest contacting the Dixie National Forest to get their take on it this year.

Mud is the big problem on this route after the snow melts. Best to wait for things to dry out, or do the loop in the late summer as we did. We had a little rain while camping in Zion NP which made the next day's riding pretty miserable!
