Prevailing winds on Pacific Coast route in October?

Does anyone know whether the prevailing winds on the Pacific Coast Route are still north to south in October?  I'm thinking of starting at the beginning of October in the hope of avoiding most of the tourist traffic. I could also start at the beginning of September if that would be a better option.

I did the coast in late September and early October. The prevailing wind was still coming from the north. I think it'd only be from the south if a storm was coming in, which could be possible in later October, but usually not that likely. Now November...
