Rigidity of S&S Couplers?
« on: July 11, 2017, 04:45:04 pm »
Hi,

Does anyone have practical, hands on experience with a loaded touring bike featuring the S&S Couplers? Is it as rigid, wobblefree and solid as a non-S&S coupler bike?

The couplers are stiffer and more rigid than the tube they are installed in.  The do not reduce the frame's stiffness or stability at all.  Their only downside is cost and a slight weight penalty.

I have the couplers on a ti bike and they are very secure.  There isn't any flex at the coupler.

Yes. Stronger than the original tunes usually. We have them on our triplet, which we tour on. Full bike weight with three people and front - rear panniers is probably 550-600 pounds rolling, with one long frame on just two wheels (10 feet +/-).
