The "Brulee' Cafe" was about as good as it gets. I had chicken & shrimp alfredmarinara pasta.  It was killer! Desert was amazing!  This place is in Vermillion, South Dakota population about
10,000.  Home of the University of South Dakota and some microbreweries, if you're into to that.I camped in the city park for a $5 donation.
I'll ask a local when I eat out, then discover that non-franchised, "best kept secret", amazing bistro or the like!

Bistro?  You tour where there's a bistro??  Heck, I thought a Subway or Pizza Hut was fine dining most days!
Cheers, SprocketWeasel

When you want to eat out, it can pay to ask around. This spring, on my way from Bigfork, MT to Sealey Lake, I stopped into a ranger station/ visitor center in search of water. When I mentioned food, a ranger told me that a place called the Black Bear down the road about 4 miles serves up a good lunch. She wasn't kidding. The fish and chips were really good. Never underestimate the recuperative power of fried food and tartar sauce. I have found several gems like that during my travels. During last month's trip across PA I was disappointed to find that many of the independent places along my route had gone out of business. Ended up with too many chain gas station sandwiches for lunch.

We just got back from Whitefish MT, scoping out a summer ride around the area, up to Polebridge, then into Glacier NP, down to Columbia Falls and back to Whitefish.  We decided to stop at MudMan Burgers & Fries in C-Falls for a burger...you won't get out of there without a trip to wash up after one.  Best burgers I've ever had.  That and Glacier Distillery in Coram...bad for biking, good for sitting around the fire!!
