Has Anyone Repeated A Recent Tour Route Just For Fun?
« on: January 25, 2018, 12:16:10 pm »
Hello all, new member here. In 2016 I did a big loop of the US and Canada, beginning and ending in San Antonio Texas, that included the Natchez Trace and Blue Ridge Parkway as well as circling the Great Lakes in Canada. This summer I'm off again and I can't decide whether or not to retrace this route (more or less) or head out West. I find myself reminiscing on so much of that tour that I'm tempted to just do it again. Has anyone done a tour twice? Was it fun? As fun as you'd hoped? I will ultimately tour elsewhere eventually (don't we all?) but that trip was so cool. I wonder if I'm setting myself up for a 'been there seen that' letdown. I'd enjoy any opinions and thoughts on this please.

You can never step into the same river twice.

I have a couple of routes twice but in opposite directions.  I personally prefer to see new areas even though I must say the experience is maybe 40% "new" going in the opposite direction.  That said, I do enjoy touring in ID, MT, AB, & BC and have ridden the same road a few times on different routes.  I didn't mind that as it was typically for only a couple of days or less.

If you have not ridden out west, give it a shot.  You might be surprised how nice it is.  Best, John

Thanks for your responses- there is so much to North America I reckon I should go west, saving a repeat for a few years from now, when my recollections have faded. I was sorry I missed the Rockies last trip, and those Parkways aren't going anywhere. Thanks.

I too have fond memories of past trips and have been tempted to repeat some of them. Years ago I had a happy accident in reluctantly starting an online journal/blog so my family could follow along.  Soon realized I had a nice recap of the trip (with pics) that I can go back to re visit anytime. I  still enjoy reading about some of the days again and again...

Only short tours. I use to ride the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway annually when I lived in Oregon. Otherwise I’d never repeat a long tour exactly.

Ty, how long a tour is the bikeway? I am traveling from Sac region to Eugene several time a year to see my kids.  That might be a nice side trip to look at .
