« on: March 02, 2018, 07:51:28 pm »
I am leaving San Diego on 11th March on the Sothern Tier and want to ride up to the Route 66 around El Paso, ultimate destination Toronto, any suggestions for a route between El Paso and  Route 66 please, my wife and I are on a loaded tandem with camping gear.

Las Cruces > Almagordo.  Can camp at White Sands.  From there, it depends on what you want.

For a more scenic but hillier route, go to Cloudcroft (scenic but cold at night due to elevation)> Ruidoso (via NM-244) > Capitan (home of Smokey the Bear) > Roswell (don't get abducted) > Clovis (via US-70) > Amarillo (stick to the back highways).

For easier but slightly less scenic and less traffic, go to Santa Rosa via US-54.  Less opportunity for camping but both are wide open country to possibly stealth camp.

Hope this helps, John
