Storing Schwalbe Marathons
« on: March 25, 2018, 08:53:11 pm »
I've have some brand new Schwable Marathon 35s stored semi-folded in a box for over a year now. Have I done any damage to them by keeping the boxed up for so long?  I'm hoping to use them on a tour this summer and as you well know, they are not inexpensive.  I'd hate to have to spring  for new ones. Any knowledge about this?

Thanks.

If you kept them inside, you should be OK.  If up in the attic or similar very hot place, may be iffy.  When you install, look for dry rot (hair line cracks along the sidewalls).  If you have dry rot, do not use.

Enjoy your tour!

Probably not, only a year or two isn't a big deal.  But the ideal storage is probably unfolded.  BTW, the enemies of tires are UV light (sunlight) and moisture.  Keep them dry and in the dark.

Thanks guys. They've  been stored in the dark, in the dry and in the cool, but not cold.  I'll take your advice and inspect them carefully.  I've unfolded them.  Hopefully, they'll be OK.
