May 26th TransAm Start
« on: April 16, 2018, 10:48:22 am »
Just reserved my rental car to drive to Yorktown and made my motel reservation for May 25th. Starting the transam rain or shine on Saturday the 26th of May East to West, unsupported camping and some motels. Been wanting to do this for nearly 20 years now and am finally making it happen. Based on input here in these forums, I've decided to follow the TransAm to Missoula then follow Great Parks north to pick up the Northern Tier and finish in Anacortes. I'm communicating with one other person starting on the same date--if there are others, please let me know. Would enjoy riding with company at least some of the time.

Hi, I won’t be riding at this time (well, not in the US anyway) but just to wish you a safe and very enjoyable ride.

Will you be posting updates?

Keep us posted as to your 'discoveries'. I am planning kinda the same route with detours off the TA in Missouri for the Katy Trail, on to Nebraska for the Cowboy trail, a side trip to Mt Rushmore then on to Mizzoula and then Glacier Road to the sun. After that, I'm looking at the Northern Tier or Lewis and Clark to finish with my front wheel in the Pacific. It seems that the Northwest has many options and I'd like to know what you find later this summer. Again, keep us posted!!!!

My last day at work today. Getting last minute stuff done tomorrow then renting a car and driving 8 hours to Yorktown on Friday. Starting my trip Saturday morning. Will post updates at the link below when I have service and am not too tired. I have read some blogs where the riders let the blogging become almost like a job---I don't plan to let that happen, but will post enough to keep family/friends updated on where I am and maybe some pics. Been wanting to do this for a lot of years...excited to get started.

Do you know when you will be crossing from Virginia in to Kentucky?

Not sure of the exact day, but will be within the first week...I plan to move on through the Eastern part of the route and slow down some in the West since I haven't spent a lot of time in the western states I'll be going through.

I will be near the Ky/Va border right on the route on May 31. If you need something let me know and I'll try my best to have it for you.
