Bike storage
« on: June 12, 2018, 07:34:04 pm »
I'm planning on riding the Great Divide route in mid July. We are flying into Edmonton International Airport. Then taking a shuttle to Jasper the next day, from the airport. I would like to be able to store our bikes overnight at the airport so we don't have to drag them to our motel. They have a storage option at the airport, but it only for luggage that is continuing on to another flight. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't have any easy answer but I'll brainstorm with you...

Can you ride the bicycle to a nearby airport hotel and keep it in your room or leave in hotel lockup overnight?
I am assuming tho that it is boxed and you want to leave it boxed until you arrive in Jasper.  If so what about the Shuttle company can they pick it up and keep it for you overnight?

Thanks for helping.  We need to keep them boxed.  So far everybody at the airline, the airport, and the shuttle service hasn't had any suggestions.  At the moment, the hotel has a free airport shuttle and I plan on putting them on the hotel shuttle to the hotel, and then the next day on the hotel shuttle back to the airport.  It just seems inefficient and a pain in the ass.  I might contact the hotel and see if they have any ideas.

If you don't claim your box when you land, will the baggage office hang on to it overnight?

If I don't come up with another solution, I'll certainly ask at the airport, if it is an option.  I don't think I'll risk it without getting their okay first.

So land with the boxes, shuttle to the hotel, shuttle back to the airport with boxes. Then pickup the Jasper shuttle with the boxes again?

If so, I did similar in Calgary to start Tour Divide. Wasn't as bad as it sounds. Just make sure the hotel understands that you have bike boxes. My hotel tried to pick me up in a small sedan the first time (they had a bus).
