NYC Layover day
« on: April 30, 2019, 01:13:52 pm »
I am planning a trip and looking to take the ferry from Highlands NJ into NYC for 2 nights.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a hotel/B&B ect that has secure bicycle storage in NYC?  I do not plan to use the bike to ride around NYC just from the ferry dock to the hotel and back.  The bike is a recumbent trike so putting in the hotel room is not a option.

All of my internet searches have only shown hotels with bicycle rentals.

Thanks
Jeff

Jeff, one of my touring buddies rides a recumbent trike and my wife rides a recumbent trike.  The trikes are frequently in motels without and issue.

Regardless, try WarmShowers first.  Second, SeaFarers International House  https://www.sihnyc.org/ is sort of a modified hotel/hostel.  You can get inexpensive (for NYC) rooms or you can get a dorm room (I think).  Think of it as a clean but budget hotel, not a partying crappy hostel.  We have stayed there in the past and had no issues with it but did not have a trike at the time.
It does give preference for mariners however so space is limited.

I'll bet you are going to have to pick up the phone. Secure bike storage is not likely going to be an amenity listed on line. Look for hotel near where you plan to land and call them. And if you are up for an adventure, land at 11th St./Wall St., ride over the Brooklyn Bridge and stay at the nearby Nu Hotel. They'll take care of your trike. You may even be able to fit it in the elevator and take it into your room. I've stayed there a couple of times with two bikes in the room.
