Cheap lodging in Banff or camping just outside of Banff
« on: July 10, 2018, 09:00:27 am »
Doing the Great Divide MBT starting this August.  Arriving Banff early evening around 6 pm.  What is the possibility of camping along the route just outside of Banff, a few miles down the trail?   Alternately, suggestions on inexpensive lodging in Banff?

The YWCA is the cheapest option (hostel and single rooms). I think there is a another hostel in town or in Canmore.  I believe the first camping is at least an hour outside of Banff on the route.

Banff International Hostel has dorm beds at $59 per night -
pretty pricey for a hostel but it is Banff in summer.
You will need to reserve it ASAP as they sell out quickly.

Canmore Hostel is another option. A bit cheaper.
Plus Canmore is way less crazy to start from.

There is a backcountry campsite about 6 km south of town -
But you need to reserve the site  thru the park backcountry office.
They will be closed by 6p. Anyhoo, not a good idea to cut it so close.
