Bike Travel Weekend experience
« on: February 24, 2019, 10:58:56 am »
I am curious what experience has been in previous years with Bike Travel Weekend, both for those listing public rides and those responding. What kind of response did listers get? Did the connection get completed and both show up and ride? How did each determine the suitability of the companions and route in advance, assuming they did not previously know each other?

Thanks for any insight.

Hi Liam,
Thank you for your interest in Bike Travel Weekend.

To answer your question, some people who register public Bike Travel Weekend trips have great success in getting others to join them while others have not had much interest. It helps if trip organizers promote their trip in other ways and not just by registering it. Promotional resources are available on the Promote Your Bike Travel Weekend Trip page at https://www.adventurecycling.org/resources/bike-travel-weekend/promote-your-bike-overnight/
These resources help trip organizers promote their trip to people in their community to people who may be interested.

Once you register a public trip your email address is available for people to contact you and ask you about joining. It's completely up to the trip organizer as to whether or not the companion is suitable to join. You probably want to ask the interested person a series of questions like their level of experience, depending on the route you have chosen. As far as I know, once a group connects about going on a Bike Travel Weekend trip everyone shows up and has a successful and enjoyable trip.

I hope you are able to participate in Bike Travel Weekend whether you go on your own or with a group.
