TABR route

I understand the TABR is adding an optional route through Nebraksa. Is ACA going to sanction it as a Transam alternative? What are the advantages of Nebraska? Maps coming?

I looked at their routing - O.K. for the race, but definitely not as a cross-Nebraska route.
There are some lovely routes thru the Sandhills - scenic with less traffic.

We do not currently have it in our plans to add an alternate or connector to the TransAm through Nebraska. I've learned to never say never though.  ;)

Jennifer -

With the planned Yellowstone-Black Hills connector there will be a South Dakota E-W route.
Texas has the Southern Tier; Oklahoma has Route 66;
Kansas has the TransAm; ans North Dakota has the Northern Tier.

That leaves Nebraska. :-(

And Nebraska has some of the finest Great Plains scenery of all 6 states.
The Sandhills have never been plowed up.
So you can bike mile after mile of Great Plains grasslands.

Can be hot as blue blazes in summer, windy any time, and storms, too.
(Although the highs in the Sandhills tend to be 5-10 degrees lower than S. Neb. or SD)
And the small towns like other Plains states continue to shrivel and die.
So services can be challenging.

But the Sandhills make one of the loveliest crossings of the Great Plains.
Nebraska was part of my first x-c ride in 1987 and my more recent in 2016.

Best - J

I drove through the Sand Hills area a few years ago. I kept saying to myself that It would be a great area to bike. The low volume of traffic and the hilly scenery was very nice.

jamawani,

Ahh, choices have to be made. This time the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore and Devils Tower won out.
