Norfolk, Va. to ACA Outer Banks Route
« on: February 23, 2019, 07:41:02 pm »
Does anyone have a suggestion for  riding on-road the short distance between central Norfolk, VA (or the Norfolk airport area as an alternate) and the ACA Outer Banks route (e.g., at Sligo or Currituck, NC?) I see lots of water crossed by interstate highways, but no obvious bike route at that point.

You might want to check out the bicycle map resources from Virginia to DOT to help you determine a reasonable route:

Click on "Biking NC" on the page below to see the interactive map resource in North Carolina:

I hope this helps!

I have no knowledge about how to do this from Norfolk airport, however you need to make your way east to VA SR615 out of Virginia Beach. Go south on it, it will be NC SR615 at the border. Use the Knott's Island Ferry to cross North Landing River and connect to NC 168 at Currituck, NC 168 connects to US158 and US158 is really the only connection to the Outer Banks from the north.

Thanks.  I truly appreciate the response. Crossing Norfolk to Virginia Beach seems to be no problem, and I hadn't realized that there was a usable ferry option to get me across. I think this and the previous answer satisfy my concerns.
