Indoor accommodations in and around Yellowstone and the Tetons are going to be very tight.

And last question... if I did this alone would I meet other riders or would it be lots of me time?!
For a July-August TA, I personally would definitely start in the west.  If you do that and start in early July you will see lots of other riders going the same way.

And going the other way too, at least for the first few weeks. Lots of westbounders will be finishing up in July.

I think most people do transam at one shot. at 4,200 miles and 60 miles a day you're talking 70 days. at age 69, that's my conservative goal, at least. from my research, i agree with those who saying cutting it in two would be troublesome, unless you planned ahead for train or rental car, etc.

i was shooting for the whole thing. fell last week near loretto, kentucky, 700-800 miles in. broke my left wrist, right big toe. left big toe damaged, too. big road rash on right knee and left butt and other abrasions. plan to resume in april, 2019. so, a 2-part trans am is looking good. ha ha

Did it this year in 56 days with two days off. Blogged each day at the link below if you want to see the daily mileage as a reference. It was fantastic--my greatest adventure in my 58 year life thus far :-)

Steve,
I just looked at your link and scrolled through the last 10 days of pictures.  I'll look at the rest latter.  Its fun to see the same pictures that I took (and probably everyone else) maybe at a different angle but the same pics nonetheless.  The one that made me laugh though was the picture in Oregon where I have the same llama in front of that same corner fence in front of the mountain.  :-)

Good evening folks!

I am just reading back over this post. As Spring has sprung here in Ireland... my mind is turning again to a summer bike tour..
Last Summer, I cycled 3,700kms around the coast of Ireland... it was quite tough, but really enjoyable!
This summer, I am planning on doing an extended Lejog...or Lands End in Cornwall, north via all the Scottish Isles to John o Groats...back south to Edinburgh and fly home..

The Trans Am has been on my mind the last few weeks... I still provisionally am looking at the summer of 2020..
Most of my mates are tied up with family and work, so I probably will be solo on this trip?

How do you guys find the Trans Am as a solo rider?
Are there any options to join a group for the Trans Am?....without spending an absolute fortune..

Thank you !

Dublin Dave.

It’s perfect. Assuming you go during peak season, you’ll meet plenty of other cyclists, so you’ll only be alone if you want to be. And sometimes you’ll want to be. A big part of what makes this wonderful is the freedom to do exactly what you want to do exactly when you want to do it.

If you are looking for companions, use the "companions wanted" section over on CrazyGuyonaBike and other websites.  I would guess/hope the CTC on your side of the pond would have something similar.

The TA is still my favorite ride after almost 40 years of tours. Tailwinds, John

It should be fine, but I think most agree it would be preferred to leave from the west coast.
