How much FUN would a Tourists' 'RENDEZVOUS' be ?

How much FUN would a Tourists' 'RENDEZVOUS' be ?!?!
Has there ever been one?
What a great time it would be for Tourists and Bicycle Vendors* ?

For example, AT Hikers do an annual 'Rendezvous' called "Trail Days." - http://www.traildays.us/ about which
http://appalachiantrail.org/home/conservation/a-t-community-program/at-community-partners/damascus-va reports ...
"This multi-day festival in May attracts about *20,000 hikers and other visitors to Damascus each year, and offers hiker workshops, hiker services, food, hiking gear vendors and entertainment."

Let's do this.  Thoughts ?

P.S. More examples .... Motorcyclists do annual Rendezvouses too ! .... Get a load of these gatherings, as well  :) ....

Got a chuckle out of this.  I thought your headline mean how fun would a ROMANTIC "rendezvous" be you and a local.

Anyway, I guess there are already some rendezvous already out there somewhat.  RAGBRAI comes to mind.  Some  major metro areas have annual large events (20k cyclists).

I recently started a somewhat rendezvous type in that I formed the free KAMO Bicycle Touring Group on Facebook for those bicycle tourists who live in Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma to encourage the cyclists to get together at least once a year to tour in the region together.  We have 100+ members join since November, have our first Annual Tour booked for May in the foothills of the Ozarks (only about 12 signed up so far), and hope to have the group members start to tour together.

But yes, a "sturgis" type event would be neat but I guess RAGBRAI is probably the closest to it.

A thought? ... KAMO could be built out into a national Rendezvous IF you might care for it to become such?
KAMO could well be the launch platform, John?
Btw ... "Rendezvous" in the historical sense of the great USA western expansion .... the annual Rendezvouses of the American Fur Trappers and Mountain Men ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Mountain_Rendezvous

I prefer not to have the headaches of another large group to corral.  I plan meetings and conventions for 25k+ person conventions and so don't want to get another one.  However, anyone can join us but I am not actively looking to get others outside the KAMO area.

I actually think ACA in combo with WS would have a better job of getting something done.  They have a much broader source of cyclotourist enthusiasts that they can easily reach.  The problem is everyone wants to make money.  For instance, our 4-Day KAMO tour is strictly volunteer organized and conducted.  It costs nothing to join us except you are asked to chip in on the research & marking the route costs if you can (about $200 total or $10 if 20 people go on the tour). Of course, when it is free, you have to pay for your own lodging, food, etc. but the purpose of KAMO is to just bring cyclotourists together, not to make money or make this the "best" or even the overall cheapest tour.  I truly hope this becomes organic in that the members start to tour together where ever, other regions form their own "KAMO" and then maybe years down the road, all the "KAMO" groups can get together for a Rendezvous.

I remember by Boy Scout days and freezing my ass off at the Trapper's Rendezvous in Kansas.  It is quite large now.

An errant thought struck me while reading this.  If ACA wanted to do something like this in Missoula, it would be a VERY good idea to have people ship their bikes vs. fly with them.  A friend was flying home on a puddle-hopper some years ago when a bowling championship was being held here.  They had to kick some people (and their luggage) off the plane because they couldn't get the plane balanced with all the bowling balls in the hold.  Now imagine a few thousand people flying into Missoula one weekend, each of them checking their bike with them...

Not even sure you could accomplish that. I've flown there several times. Doesn't seem to be that many daily flights. Just booked for June 15. The leg from MSP to MSO already had a fair number of seat taken. And you'd likely have to charter mass ground transportation. One year I waited more than 45 min. for a cab from the airport to the KOA. IIRC, there are only two cab companies. One (Green Taxi, or whatever it's called) had only one operational vehicle when I was there in 2017. In 2016 I had to walk over 3 miles from the KOA to the airport in the dar with all my gear because I waited until the day before my flight home to try to reserve a cab. As I did in 2017, this year I reserved a room in a hotel near the airport the night before my flight home. It has a shuttle.

The League used to have an annual national rally before they became an industry advocate organization.

...do something like this in Missoula...

Interbike committed suicide by moving out of Vegas (lotsa cheap flights, lotsa cheap lodging).  Just sayin'.
