Would the bridge on US Hwy 45 over the Ohio River from Brookport IL to Padauch, KY be a good alternate route instead of going all the way east to Cave-in-Rock, only to come southwest  again?

Based on what I see in the Google Streetview, i wouldn't want to ride it. Grated and no shoulder.

Additionally, it is closed until November 2019: https://www.wpsdlocal6.com/2019/06/05/u-s-45-ohio-river-brookport-bridge-to-remain-closed-until-nov-1/

Yea, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says that "trucks have been ignoring the vehicle width restriction on the bridge." That sounds cozy.

Thanks JHamelman and John Nelson..
Great advice. We're in our way to Cave-in-Rock in Rock.  But seems like needless miles.

I’m way late to the party but I used to drive across the Brookport bridge all the time. It’s a grated steel deck, single lane each way and no shoulder. No way at all i’d Ride a bike across it.
