Great Parks South Section 1 Map 7 - Black Hawk, CO
« on: July 23, 2019, 05:40:39 pm »
I don't have the latest map, but I assume the ACA route now follows the legal cycling route through Blackhawk shown here https://www.cityofblackhawk.org/files/4614/0365/9752/Bobtail_Bike_Route_11x17.pdf

However, according to https://www.cityofblackhawk.org/
Quote
Bobtail Road - between Gregory & Miners Mesa - June 3, 2019 to August 30, 2019.  Road Closed - Monday to Friday - Open at 1:00 pm Fridays for the weekend.

I talked to the Blackhawk City Hall, and they confirmed that Bobtail road is closed.  They also stated you can't have a bicycle on a sidewalk, and you can't use Gregory St.  They didn't think it was possible to get from Central City to Hwy 119, except for a dirt road that they couldn't tell me how to get to.  I think was Miners Mesa Road and Lake Gulch Road.  Note that Google maps doesn't show this connecting, but satellite photos suggest it does.

Black Hawk is a pain the ass!  I thought this was legally settled a few years ago.  Anyway, If you take Miners Mesa Road, this ends up at the dirt road which is Lake Gulch Road which connects to CR-6.

Yes, the legal settlement that resulted from the Colorado supreme court ruling was the route I cited that uses Bobtail road.  But temporarily Bobtail road is closed for construction M-F.

Yes, this is an issue we worked on and wrote about. The town effectively tried to ban bicycles from coming through town. It was settled in the Colorado Supreme Court in 2013 (see blog post Black Hawk, Colorado Ban Overturned).

(Side note: It would appear they have changed the official bike route since that time. I'll be adding a note and reroute to the Map Updates and Corrections.)

As for the current construction closures, we are doing some outreach to see what we can do. When I have more information, I'll post it in the forums.

With the help of Bike Colorado, we have had correspondence with Black Hawk on this construction. We've been told the current bike route signage will be moved to a temporary construction detour directing cyclists to use Gregory Street, Black Hawk Street and Highway 119 as the route through Black Hawk. [This is the current published Great Parks South route.]

I hope this helps.

Best,
Jennifer
