NYC to CHI vs. Eastern Express

Hello all,
I’m multi-stage tripping across the US. Starting on the Jersey shore, ending in Washington state.  We started following the NYC to CHI route via the philly alternative.  Eventually we’ll join up with the TAT then head West out of Missoula. Right now I’m contemplating the route from Pittsburgh to Indianapolis. Looks like the NYC to CHI and the Eastern Express cover slightly different but largely similar routes. Does anyone have first hand experience on either route or can offer a comparison analsysis of the two routes?  I’m riding with 2 12-14 year old boys. We’re in no hurry and like to see what there is to see.
