Friend hit by cab. Seeking medical/legal advice
« on: October 12, 2019, 07:24:59 am »
Hi,

HELP!!! A friend was recently involved in a hit-and-run accident with a NYC cab! The following is from his wife:

"I am looking for some serious advice. Two nights ago my husband was the victim of a hit-and-run by a cab while commuting home on his bike. He was knocked unconscious and the cab drove off. Bystanders called an ambulance and told the EMT's what happened. My husband remembers nothing about the incident. He is currently in Brooklyn hospital with a broken pelvis, a clavicle broken in several places and a head wound (below the line of his helmet). We are still unsure about the extent of the injuries, what recovery will look like or how much this will all cost.

Does anyone know about or have experience dealing with bike accidents in New York? We learned that a police report was never filed, so we are going to do that. Does anyone know about using PIP within auto insurance to cover bike accident costs? Taken legal action? I know time is of the essence, so I don't want to miss anything I should be looking into right now.

Any solid advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you!"

Can anyone help with these questions or provide referral to someone who can help???

Urgently, you need to visit any local businesses nearby the collision site to see if they have any video footage. Many video recording systems rollover on a 72-hour to one-week cycle. If you don't have witnesses, a video of the collision may be your only hope of identifying the driver. Good luck - my thoughts and prayers are with your friend.

This is a pretty comprehensive guide to the first steps to protect yourself physically and legally after this kind of accident:
