Bike packing over Christmas

Due to unforseen circumstances I find myself free over christmas this year and would love to do a 7-10 day bike packing trip. I am based in the Bay Area and am hoping for a route in the US South West (New Mexico etc) but not sure whether end of December will be a good time for that.

As in specific routes, the Monumental Loop or the Road-Runner (both New Mexico) looked great distance wise.

What do people think ? Is December miserable there or good to ride given some precaution, warm clothing and potentially a couple of overnights in motels ?

If the timing isn't good for that area, anything else you'd recommend which doesn't require flying around the world ?

December is fine for riding, but keep in mind some touring limitations. Daylight will be reduced, so be conservative in distances. Some campgrounds will be closed, so check ahead. Nights will be quite long, so plan for what you’re going to do in the dark.

Good point, @John Nelson, I've seen others write about looong nights too. Was hoping to maybe sleep in a hotel or sth like that as much as possible...
