Plan B to Billings
« on: January 10, 2020, 01:13:23 pm »
I posted about a month ago about traffic through Y-stone to Cooke City to
Billings. I always have a Plan B, C, D, etc. Anybody ever ridden the route
from J-Hole, Dubosis, Riverton, Thermop., Meeteesee (sp.?) Cody, Belfry, Mt. Red
Lodge, Billings. How are the roads, traffic, shoulders, etc. I t would be much appreciated.

Wind River Canyon between Shoshoni and Thermop is stunning.
Northbound is downhill usually with a tailwind in summer.
Slight to moderate shoulders.

Hwy 120 between Thermop and Cody has light traffic.
Wide open views - lots of up & down.
Rest area halfway between very welcome.

Meeteetse is a great little town.
Plus, some of the finest mountains in Wyo are up the Wood River.
Blue ribbon trout stream.
And the dirt road up into the ghost town of Kirwin - sublime.

Great scenery over your shoulder going from Moran Junction towards Dubois...

Dubois towards Riverton, traffic picks up a bit and shoulders are variable (OK to unusable).

Meeteetse, light traffic both sides, nice town.

Cody to Belfry, wide shoulders, light traffic.

212, heavy fast traffic, minimal shoulder on the two-lane stretches, but I'm not sure how else to get there.  Without ever having been on it, I'd try Clark River Road.
