Greetings,

Looking to ride NorCal Hwy 101 to the 1 this summer from Crescent City to San Francisco. Also building a detour route to take in the Lost Coast.

I am considering not only the paved roads of the Lost Coast into Petrolia but then looking to ride the backroads below, both of which are dirt. I've viewed quite a few youtube videos on these roads to know what the road surfaces look like and will equip my gravel bike with the appropriate tires.

Has anyone ridden these back roads? I know there is about 15k of 'vert' in total with these two 40 ish mile sections.

Observations welcome here.

South of Honeydew:
Wilder Ridge Rd/Kings Peak Rd

South of Shelter Cove:
Chemise Mtn Rd/USAL Rd

I have  not personally ridden it but by all accounts, it is one extremely tough ride.  Very scenic and remote but tough.

Report back as to how it went when you are done!
