I agree with hikerjer. I was turned away only in campgrounds without hiker.biker sites. I stayed at 2 hiker/biker sites in Yellowstone and Teton NP. However at Colter Bay in Teton NP, there were 3 vehicles using the hiker/biker campsites when I woke up in the morning. They must have come in after sunset when I was asleep. I have heard this is happening frequently around the country due to increased demand for campsites.

I've experienced that a few times in the past in national parks.  Can't really fault the folks as they really had no other option other than driving many miles through the night in the hopes of finding somewhere outside of the park.

I agree; I don't mind vehicles using the sites as long as touring bicyclists have a guaranteed spot. There was plenty of room at the Colter Bay hiker/biker area for overflow cars. In Colter Bay, the hiker/biker sites are individual sites with a parking stall so it is easy to put cars there and make the area more efficient. At Madison campground in Yellowstone NP there is simply a plot of land with several picnic tables designated as the hiker/biker area. This set-up would not accommodate cars, though perhaps a motorcycle or two.

Hello,

I'm also still doing a bike tour this year. I think it is safe as long as the tour is not crossing any city.

Kind regards,

Carina

I debated going on a short one this year but all the campgrounds that i planned on stopping at were closed at the time. From my understanding the county's had a extremely bad spike in Covid cases an closed down for the year. I plan on doing on next year but that could still be changed if Covid is still hanging around.
