Pacific Coast HIghway campgrounds
« on: August 18, 2020, 10:12:16 pm »
Hello, my name is Danette and I'm a new member. I have the month of October off due to a canceled Nepal vacation and am now planning to take my first long distance solo bike tour down the CA section of PCH instead.  I am wondering if anybody has recent experience at campgrounds on the PCH in California?  I have a one-way car rental to Crescent City and will either take Amtrak or rent another one-way car from San Diego back home.  I also have friends along the way that can bail me out barring any worst-case scenarios.  I am an RN and REALLY need a "vacation"!  TIA for any intel or suggestions!

Some state parks have reopened for camping.  You can check the current status at parks.ca.gov.  If you have a draft itinerary you should either check their website or better yet call just to make sure camping is available.  You may be able to find motels if camping isn't available although you may have to modify your itinerary.  It may be difficult to find camping near the big cities.  County campgrounds may be hit or miss as to whether or not they allow camping.

Good luck.

Thank you! I will call them closer to the time. I do know Elk Prairie is open for night #1!
