What should I do to my Bike
« on: October 30, 2020, 01:57:02 pm »
Hello ,

So I am in a pickle of what to do with my road bike. I just recently bought a budget bike (the only one I found during COVID 19) and before I continue here the specs

KHS Flite 150 (2017)

Fork           Hi-Ten Unicrown, Straight Blades

Headset   Threadless 1-1/8”

Rims         Alloy Double Wall w/CNC Sidewall

Hubs      ( F/R)   KT Alloy QR, Cassette

Tires           Road 700X28C

Derailleur, Front       Shimano FD-A070, 31.8 clamp

Derailleur, Rear            Shimano Acera M360

Shifters               Shimano STI, ST-A070

Chain              KMC Z7

Crankset       Shimano FC-A070, 50-34T

BB                 Cartridge Bearing

Cassette       Shimano Csst, HG20-7, 12-28T, 7-speed

Pedals         Shimano PD-M520 SPD Pedals

Handlebar     Alloy Drop, Compact Bend, 31.8, XS-M: 42cm, L-XL: 44cm, Ladies XXS-XS: 38cm

Stem

Alloy Thread less, 4 Bolt, 31.8   L: 100mm,

Brake Levers    Shimano STI, ST-A070

Brake       Dual Pivot, Long Reach

I had issues with the bike from the beginning and long story short I changed my rear derailleur for an Acera. Here is my true Question , I don't really mind the 7 speed cassette, but I feel like my crank (tourney) is not the Greatest. Therefore, If you suggest A better Crank set in a 2X7 system I can look into that, Otherwise what Should I upgrade to ? Thank you in advance. (p.s) what else would you recommend to replace with the detail description I put in for the Bike . And no I don't want to get a new bike , this one is special for me. lol

Welcome to the ACA Forums.  Honestly, if I were you I would ask this question over at BikeForums.net under the Bicycle Mechanics sub-forum.

Hope it works out for you!

Free advice is worth what you pay for it.

Your new bike is an amazingly better machine than my first derailleur geared bike.  Still, somehow, I rode that 1969 Schwinn Varsity thousands and thousands of miles and despite everything we know today about bikes, I had a grand time.  I rode it on my first tour, too!

Upgrade your Flite 150?  Naw, just ride it.

I agree with TCS, ride that bike.

When you get a new bike, you can either ride it or read about it.  The former is more fun, will help you get into better shape, and become a better rider.  The latter leads to buyer's remorse.  Even if you'd spent $5,000 on this bike, you could find another one that cost $6,000 and might be infinitessimally "better" in some way or another.  Spend your non-riding free time looking up new routes, finding new places to ride, learning how to deal with traffic, and perhaps even how to take care of yourself and your bike instead.

When the time comes, and it will, you'll know what to do.  In the mean time, just ride it.

My cycling has been primarily long distance touring and stealth camping. My components are always low end. Really never had any problems with any of it, but I do change them after one long tour and before another.

Thank You All , I greatly appreciate everyone's advice. I guess this arose out of curiosity and more afraid of tourney parts due its bad reviews in general.

Probably the best way to answer that question is to take the advice offered and ride it.  That way you'll learn what you want/need.  Quite possibly the best thing you can do for that bike is to get it a stablemate that is lighter, or stiffer, or has more speeds, or has fewer speeds, etc.  You get the idea.
