I have had good luck with Brooks Cambium C-17.
Saddle choice is very personal.   Only your butt will tell you the answer.  I've been through many saddles/styles.  I have used the Brooks B-17 leather saddles with good results as well.

Anyway, I dislike the thin long seats of the racing bicycles. Can anyone recommend a different seat that I could use on that bicycle? A wider more comfortable seat is desired. I am not out to break any time trials or anything so adding a few more ounces is not an issue. Thanks in advance for your help.
For me, the Terry type seats,
that may well meet your above parameters (?),
have been great for touring....

The key is always about which saddles fit to the rider's individual 'sitting bones.'

I went with a Brooks B-17, conditioned it well for the first ride (see below), and have honestly NEVER had a single thought of "my butt hurts" with rides of up to 85 miles and 500+ miles over a week. it is perfect for me.

YBMV (Your Butt May Vary)

I found this prep on the internet and it worked great :
 - Use a toothbrush to massage in the conditioning creme that you can buy with the seat.
 - Only condition the bottom of the seat, but cover every bit of it.
 - Place in an oven at the lowest temperature you can set it at for 10 minutes.
 - Use oven mitts to take it out and repeat the creme application.
 - Back in the oven for another 10 minutes.
 - Do this 4 or 5 times or until the leather won't "take" any more creme.
 - After the seat cools, go for a 10 mile ride.

This made the leather very pliable and accepting to my particular sit bone structure on the first ride.
I never had a break-in issue with the seat.

Thank you Rixtoy  :) Really helpful thoughts on breaking in the B17. I've moved on to the Selle Anatomica saddles but I love the Brooks saddles (but threw in the towel after putting in 5,000 miles on one and not being ecstatic about it.) However, my last name is "Brooks" so it's a cheap way to get my bike monogrammed :)

I do have a Brooks saddle (with the springs) that I bought for an ebike (because it looks cool and . . . well, the name.) I dont spend that much time on the ebike but I'll run it through your oven program. I like that! Thanks for sharing  :)
