Route map with elevation profile
« on: December 14, 2020, 07:45:33 pm »
I'd like advice on a little project I'm working on...

I recently purchased a map of the U.S., had it mounted, and put map tacks along my 2019 modified-Northern Tier route (Attachment 1).  What I'd like to do is export the RideWithGPS elevation profile (Attachment 2),maybe into Excel, where I can adjust the X and Y scales, and mount it as a strip along the bottom of the map showing my route's elevation across the U.S.  Can the elevation info be exported?  I'll also try the staff at RideWithGPS for their assistance.

I haven't looked at a raw .gpx or .fit file lately, but I think the elevation is in a field for one of those.  Look at them with a text editor, then try to import one into Excel.

Your challenge will be to spread the points out more or less evenly by road distance.

(Also, you'll want to reverse the direction -- the biggest passes are in the west, on the left side of the map.)

Thanks, Pat.  I started playing around with the KML file.  It's going to take some tweaking but will be an interesting challenge.
