My tires don't typically "seat" until there is 20 psi or more pounds of pressure in them.

I don't what you are going on about. I stated, "With the wheel I had trouble with, seating the tire wasn't the problem. After the tire was seated, before could pump air to fill, tire would pull away from rim." After tire was seated, locked to rim, heard tire pop, tire pulled away from rim, breaking seal. Again, "before could pump air to fill".

That is strange about it popping off.  I have never seen tires pop off the bead once fully seated without some cause.  I wonder if it was a poor match between the tire and rim designs or maybe a flaw in one or the other.  It sucks that you had to go to a tube.

I appreciate your reply. Exchanged several emails with Schwalbe. Guaranteed me success if I followed their instructions. Didn't work (actually same rim tape, procedure I had been using). Agree, probably a poor match between tire and rim. Not practicable to change rim. Schwalbe says different tire won't help. Same combination works on front wheel. Bike shop compressor has enough pressure to seal tire bead to rim long enough to be able to pump up tire. Too much trouble to keep going back to bike shop when tire is flat from losing seal with rim.

Surprised you couldn't get more satisfaction from Schwalbe.  Several years ago I had a Schwalbe tubed tire that wouldn't seat properly.  The only symptoms were a vague bumpiness on super-smooth pavement and my anxiety.  They replaced the tire based on my description and some bad pictures.
