Atlantic Coast
« on: August 11, 2021, 09:47:24 am »
 :)Hello everyone,
I would like to do the Atlantic Coast Route from Bar Harbor ME. to Key West Florida next year. I will be 72 years young in 2022
This will be my first long distance tour and I am ready for it. Have a 2008 Fuji touring bike and Ortlieb Panniers front and back.
I would like help from anyone about this tour?
Should I go north to south or south to north which makes more sense ?
What time of year is a good time to start?
Also my biggest question is can I use my hammock I don't like sleeping on the ground and in a tent .
I am having a new and custom hammock made as we speak.
My last Thru-Hike of the A.T. I used a hammock all the way to Maine.
So as you can see any information is much needed and welcomed and I do appreciate your time and help.
Thanks

Sounds like a great trip.

Please advise if you know the best direction to ride the Outer Banks, NC.  I know they are windy and I'm willing to do my loop in either direction.

Thank you

On Outer Banks, the wind is almost always from the south, or thereabouts.  But that’s only a few days of your trip, I’d look up climate (not weather) info from NOAA for various points down the coast.  Or search on “wind rose”.

Windy.com shows a nice picture of the current winds.  I am pretty sure they used to also show historic data, but I didn't find it at a quick glance today.  Maybe I just missed it.

In any case I think that the winds tend to be out of the south the whole way, but don't matter nearly as much in most places compared to the outer banks.
