I apologize up front of this has been asked before. I did see one post regarding making it from Wallace to Missoula. We are in Spokane tomorrow and thinking about the most direct route to Missoula. Is this a doable route? I love some feedback. Be kind :-)

Luke, first welcome to the ACA forums.

If you email me privately with your email address (ACA doesn't allow attachments) I can send you some GPS files and/or the Cue Sheets that I used when I rode that route about 4 years ago during a Spokane to Missoula to Lewiston to Spokane mini tour.

A summary of the route is take the wonderful bike path to east of Coeur d'Alene then ride down to Harrison to grab the bike trail which takes you to Mullan where you can either legally ride the Interstate (not bad at all) or a semi-rough old rail trail to the start of the fantastic Route of the Hiawatha (don't miss!).  Take it to Avery (gravel but decent), then east along the fabulous St. Joe River before hopping the border into Montana and down (on good gravel) to St. Regis.  From there mostly back roads into Missoula, again with a few miles of good (oxymoron) interstate riding.  I can not stress enough the interstate really is not bad at all along this stretch.  If for some reason there is construction in Idaho or Montana, the workers are really good about shuttling you to the end, especially on an interstate.

Hope you have a great tour!

Tailwinds, John
