The Clean Bottles idea is sound, ease of cleaning is always good.  But I found you had to be very careful about tightening both ends.  Just a little too loose or too tight would leak. My son thought so too.

Sorry you experienced that with your Clean Bottles. Haven’t had any leakage from the 3 that I own.

I've started using stainless insulated bottles. Aside from working great, they look dashing on an old school touring bike.

You can go to a value village or some other reused store and there are usually many many water bottles. Should be able to buy them cheap to experiment.

I only use stainless insulated bottles on my touring bike, I hate hot water when I get to my destination!  However, on my regular road bikes I use insulated plastic bottles instead, because they are lighter obviously, and I'm not on the bike as long as I am when touring or camping, but I still don't want hot water in a 1/2 an hour while riding that the uninsulated plastic water bottles will do, and the insulated plastic bottles will last at least 2 hours before they get too warm.

If you are going to buy a stainless insulated bottle from a store, do what I did, I took a cage with me and tried to find one that would fit!  However, once I figured out I needed larger bottles to carry more water, I bought Arundel Looney Bin adjustable cages, but I still needed to take that cage to make sure I wouldn't get too big of a bottle.
